Anthony Foresta, Grow Your Own Festival Founder
Farmer Anthony here! I’m one of the co-founders of the Grow Your Own Festival and an urban farmer for Garden Farms Nevada, growing food in school gardens and for residential clients throughout this desert town. With the implementation of Garden Farms, the Clark County School District now has the largest outdoor garden classroom program in the country, with over 150 garden classrooms. This is unprecedented and exciting.
It is possible to maintain a healthy year-round garden, when you are planting the proper things at the right time. In Las Vegas, a zone 9 planting region, you could have a thriving garden with each season.
Wouldn’t it be nice to base your dinner around what’s growing in your backyard or container gardening, free of GMOs, chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides (I’ll stop here now, more on this in my next post).
The Grow Your Own Festival is here to further your natural born right to grow your own food and educate along the way. Join us at the festival on October 7th and learn the tips and gardening hacks from our valley’s most experienced farmers and gardener.
Las Vegas is a Zone 9 region for planting. Annual minimum temperature for zone 9 is 25ºF. Use your last and first frost dates to calculate your planting schedules. Using the planting schedule below will help you get the most out of your garden. Starting seeds indoors before your last frost date will give you a jump start on the growing season.
